2018

May 18 - Aberystwyth. Carto-Cymru - The Welsh Map Symposium 2018: 'Charting the seas and coasts of the World – how maps depict the sea and coastline and how such mapping is used to widen our understanding of these environments', at the National Library of Wales.

June 7-8 - Lisbon. 2nd international workshop: 'On the Origin and Evolution of Portolan Charts', at the Instituto Hidrográfico (Portuguese Hydrographic Institute), as part of the European Research Council Project MEDEA-CHART, and hosted by the Faculty of Science – University of Lisbon. Deadline for Call for Papers: 31 December 2017.

June 8 - Donnington, Nr Newbury, Berks. 13th annual Maps & Surveys Seminar of the Defence Surveyors’ Association, on historical & current hydrographic and military surveying, charting and mapping, at the Arlington Arts Centre.

June 21-23 - Portland, Maine. 'Survey, State, Map': Symposium of the International Society for the History of the Map (ISHMap), at the Osher Map Library. "The formal CFP will be issued in October 2017." Deadline for Call for Papers: 15 January 2018.

July 2-5 - Leeds. International Medieval Congress [IMC] . 'Mappings' on one of three themes: “Mappa Memoriae: Medieval Maps and Memory”, “Text and Image and/on Medieval Maps” and “Shaping the Medieval World”. Details from: (Felicitas.Schmieder(at)FernUni-Hagen.de) and Dan Terkla (terkla(at)iwu.edu). Deadline for Call for Papers: 8 September 2017.

July 15-20 - Warsaw. 17th International Conference of Historical Geographers 2018. [The History of Cartography is specifically mentioned.] Deadline for Call for Papers: 28 October 2017, and for Posters, 11 November 2017.

September 13-15 - Oxford. International symposium: ‘Mapping Empires: Colonial Cartographies of Land and Sea’, jointly organised by the ICA's Commission on the History of Cartography and the Commission on Topographic Mapping, with the Bodleian Libraries of the University of Oxford. Deadline for Call for Papers: 1 March 2018.

September 20-23 - Golden, Colorado. Meeting of the Society for the History of Discoveries, hosted by the Rocky Mountain Map Society. Contact: mirela.altic(at)gmail.com. Deadline for Call for Papers: 15 March 2018 [extended deadline].

September 21-23 – The San Francisco Map Fair, in "the Lodge" at the Regency Center, 1290 Sutter St., with a series of three 40-minute lectures sponsored by the California Map Society.

October 4-6 - Arlington, Texas. The 11th Biennial Virginia Garrett Lectures on the History of Cartography, at the University of Texas at Arlington Library; followed by the Fall meeting of the Texas Map Society.

October 10-13 - Gotha. 21st conference of the Map and Geoinformation Curators group (MAGIC), (8-10 October), followed (11-13) by the 19th Kartographiehistorische Colloquium, at the Gotha Perthes Collection, University and Research Library Erfurt/Gotha.

October 14-17 - Manila [and Hong Kong]. 'Thirty-Sixth International Map Collectors' Society Symposium' [IMCoS], organised with The Philippine Map Collectors Society, plus an optional extension to Hong Kong (October 18-20).

 


2019
February, 14-15 - Stanford, California. Conference: ‘Mapping and the Global Imaginary, 1500-1900, David Rumsey Map Center, Stanford University Libraries. Deadline for Call for Papers: 15 April 2018.

July 13 - Leiden. Meeting of the International Society of Curators of Early Maps (ISCEM). Details later from ed.dahl(at)sympatico.ca.

July 14-19 - Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The 28th International Conference on the History of Cartography. Deadline for Call for Papers: 15 October 2018.

July 15-20 - Tokyo. 29th International Cartographic Conference.

October 3-5 {date not officially announced yet} - Zurich. XIV symposium of the International Coronelli Society for the Study of Globes.

 


2020
September 7-9 - Sydney. A history of cartography meeting is planned to celebrate the 250th anniversary of Cook’s discovery of the east coast of Australia. Maggie Patton, State Library of New South Wales, is the main organiser.

 


2021
July 4-9 - Bucharest, Romania. The 29th International Conference on the History of Cartography (ICHC).

July 19-23 - Florence. (still subject to change (as at 6 March 2018)) The 30th International Cartographic Conference of the International Cartographic Association.
